$207.99
The Marcy Recumbent Bike NS-40502R Fitness Bike Overview
We had no choice. We had to review this “fancy-looking” Marcy Bike. On top of that, we also appreciate its budget-friendly price tag.
Previously on EllipticalNation, we reviewed the LABODI 35lbs Flywheel Fitness Bike. All in all, we liked the bike. Released in 2019, it comes with some “modern” features like the LCD. However, it’s not backlit. Additionally, we also like its simple but sturdy design.
Will this Marcy Fitness Bike outshine the LABODI masterpiece? Continue reading to find out.
Straight off the bat, we were drawn in by the “strange-looking” handlebars that appear to protrude from the “seat area”. Its overall design seems stable, and the metal appears sturdy. Generally, its base is nice and firm.
Surprisingly, the manufacturers haven’t listed its flywheel’s weight. Indeed, that raises some eyebrows. Below are some of the features that come with this “sophisticated” gym bike.
Product Features
- It has a weight capacity of 300lbs.
- A heavy-duty steel frame.
- It offers an 8-level magnetic resistance.
- It runs with a belt drive system.
- An adjustable seat.
- Ergonomic foam handlebars (Front and back handlebars).
- Weighted pedals with adjustable straps.
- An LCD digital console.
- It comes with easy assembly instructions (Not more than an hour).
- Transport wheels for easy mobility.
- Its dimensions are 57″ L by 24.8″ W by 43.3″ H.
1. The steel frame and console
Indeed, we love the design on this one. Honestly, we expected some wobbliness. However, the bike has proven its strength. It can handle weights of up to 300lbs. Nonetheless, you should expect some unsteadiness once you hit the high 200s (275lbs and above).
We’d also like to comment on the bike’s finish. It has a rust and scratch-resistant paint coating that enhances its longevity.
Its wide-through design also eases the mounting and unmounting process. This is an important feature especially if the users are elderly or have some disability.
Next, we have the LCD digital display. Unfortunately, it is not backlit. Therefore, you’ll experience visibility issues in low-light circumstances.
Fortunately, the console can track several readings like distance covered, time, and calories burnt. Moreover, it also has a goal-setting feature that enables you to set a value you want to work towards.
The console also features a tablet holder for entertainment purposes. Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to sync your device with the console’s system. Also, the bike doesn’t come with pulse sensors.
2. The drive and resistance
As mentioned earlier, the manufacturers haven’t listed the flywheel’s weight. It seems we’ll have to figure it out ourselves. Therefore, we did some research and established some relative estimations from the bike’s overall weight.
First, this Marcy bike only weighs 69lbs. From that, we estimate that the flywheel should weigh a maximum of 20lbs. Now, that’s significantly lighter than the LABODI and Sunny Fitness bikes. Remember, the heavier the flywheel, the better and smoother its performance will be.
“So, how is the pedalling experience?”
It’s smooth. However, this bike isn’t suited for hardcore workout sessions. It lacks the necessary punch.
It has a rubber belt drive system that reduces vibrations. Also, it doesn’t require much maintenance.
Finally, this Marcy Bike offers manual magnetic resistance. There are 8 resistance levels you can set and intensify your workout sessions. In our opinion, this bike is built for elderly and beginner users.
3. The seat and handlebars
The seat is fairly comfortable. In addition to that, it’s also adjustable. Ideally, the seat will work well for those in the 5.0” and 6.2” height range. According to the manufacturers, the bike has an inseam length of 27” to 32”.
Unfortunately, the backrest doesn’t incline. Nonetheless, it offers strong and comfortable lumbar support.
From the pictures, you can confirm the two handlebar sets. Besides their ergonomic nature, the handlebars are nothing special. They don’t have pulse sensors. Nonetheless, they are decently non-slip.
Closing Thoughts
The Marcy NS-4050SR Fitness Bike is a nice beginner’s bike. However, it lacks the flywheel for intense workout sessions. Is it better than the LABODI 35lbs and Sunny Fitness B-1805? No, it’s not. Nonetheless, it’s quite affordable and not the worst deal.
